After his fourth place in the Budweiser Irish Derby, Boscobel will continue racing over middle distances, as announced by Mark Johnston. The colt has made important improvements this year since beating Lucarno in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Supplementing him for the Curragh Classic cost $150,000, money well spent since Boscobel run a good race in spite of losing to Aidan O’Brien’s trio: Soldier of Fortune, Alexander of Hales and Eagle Mountain.
“He's not come back yet but the reports from Ireland say he's fine,” Johnston said. “He did run well, but just emptied out very quickly in the last couple of furlongs, which was a bit of a surprise. The ground was heavy there and you can't be disappointed with him as he's come a very long way. There's no reason why we shouldn't run him over a mile and a half again, or even over further”
Boscobel was signed up for next week’s Princess of Wales’ WBX.COM Stakes at Newmarket and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
