Jockey Shane Dye fell off his horse during a race in Hong Kong on Sunday and underwent emergency brain surgery. Dye was conscious after the accident but doctors found a hemorrhage in his brain after he arrived at Hong Kong’s Prince of Wales Hospital.
Dye’s employer, David Hayes, was optimistic about the jockey’s recovery. “Doctors have gone from thinking that he could be a fatality, to no brain damage, so we're all very happy. He's in the absolute best hands, and they're doing everything they can for him”, Hayes explained.
Jockey Anthony Delpech, who also fell in the race, visited Dye and said that he was communicating with doctors and family through notes and was in good spirits under the circumstances. “I'm sure he will be back”, Delpech said after his visit to the hospital.
The Australian jockey’s first wife and his 16-year-old son arrived in Hong Kong a few hours after Dye was operated.
